Kwan Yin Buddhist Meditation

 

One of the important components of Buddhist Meditation is the mantra. A mantra is sacred syllables of sound uttered with reverence, repetitiously to induce and altered state of consciousness. One of the popular mantras attributed to Lord Buddha is ami to fo. It means the Enlightened One and refers to the Enlightened State of Lord Buddha. Buddhist legend has it that Lord Buddha sat under the buddhi tree, which is a wish fulfilling tree and meditated for seven years. He then became enlightened.

Repeating the mantra ami to fo, over and over and over again while seated in meditation posture can induce the altered state and connect us with that higher state of consciousness which Lord Buddha attained.

The Dalai Lama, spiritual and political leader of Tibet, in exile at present, is believed to be the 14th incarnation of Lord Buddha. Another favorite mantra with amazing impact is Om Mani Pedme Hum. This mantra is mainly attributed to Quan Yin, the Goddess of Compassion. Buddhists worship Quan Yin in the same way that Christians revere Mary. The mantra means, behold the jewel inside the Lotus Flower. This refers to the image of Quan Yin, seated inside the lotus which is a form of water lily. It also refers to the jewel which is the Higher Self, as Quan Yin represents the loving compassion of the Higher Self.

To experience meditating with either one of the mantras, sit in a comfortable position or lie down, relax your body and begin repeating the mantra. Continue repeating for at least five minutes to begin to experience the impact.
