Goddess Durga

goddess durga

Goddess Durga is the Goddess of strength, power, justice, courage, and conviction. She is the consort to Lord Shiva who is considered to be the Destroyer God Force for our reality, according to the Vedic Scriptures of ancient India. Durga and Shiva are in charge of removing our world from its dross by destroying all karma and karmic entanglements. The age of Kali or Kali Yuga is the time of their most prominent reign; a time when we have gone too far in the direction of pain, separation, destruction and forgetfulness. We are now at the final phase of Kali Yuga. The time when Goddess Durga’s presence is most needed. In fact Durga herself is sometimes known as the Kali Durga.

Durga is the one goddess in the Female Trinity of ancient India which carries many weapons in her hands. You may have noticed that the pictures and icons of the deities in Indian scriptures and paintings have many hands. Generally Durga is depicted with 4, 6 or 8 hands and in most of them she carries weapons. Her discus is to cut cords of attachments from the hearts and minds of her children and her devotees, her dagger is to attack the dark forces and battle on your behalf. Her sword is for upholding truth and justice and she usually sits upon her totem animal or her mount, which is the lion, the ferocious king of the jungles. As your protector goddess, she can go to battle for you and come out victorious.
